What is Chem-E-Car?

Sponsored by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, or AIChE, the Chem-E-Car competition is a bi-annual event which tests the rigor, teamwork and creativity of individual AIChE chapters. The goals of the competition are to design, present and implement a chemically-powered, shoe-box sized “chem-e-car.” The car must be able to travel a variable distance and support a variable weight.  University teams receive prizes for presentation, safety and car methodology and performance.

Explore Your Creativity!

Chem-E-Car is great opportunity for students to apply the skills and knowledge from their classes in a creative manner.  Students are autonomous in the Chem-E-Car lab, allowing them to formulate their own ideas and carry out their own experiments to test them

Work in Teams!

No one can do it alone.  Members will work with other team members as they collaborate to meet deadlines and perform experiments. This gives members to meet people outside of their majors and exchange knowledge and insights as they work on their cars.

And Compete!

Finally after compiling many hours of efforts of designing and creating a chemical powered cart, members will then put efforts to the test in the bi-annual AIChE Chem-E-Car competition.  This competition is a great way to meet other Chem-E car clubs from other schools and learn about their cheme car.
